India is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world. New airports, bigger terminals and more flights every year mean steady hiring for airport staff, from loaders and housekeeping teams to customer service agents and security personnel. Many of these jobs are open to 10th and 12th pass candidates, and freshers are regularly hired through walk-in interviews at airport cities.
Most airport staff are not employed by the airport itself. They work for ground handling companies, airlines, airport operators, facility management contractors or security agencies. This guide explains the main roles, eligibility, realistic monthly salaries in rupees, your rights at work, where genuine hiring happens, and how to avoid the fake “airport job” offers that target job seekers every year.
What Do Airport Staff Do?
Airport work is divided into the “landside” (terminal areas open to the public) and the “airside” (restricted areas such as the apron and aircraft). The role you choose decides where you work and what you need.
Ground Staff / Ramp Service: Guides aircraft on the apron, handles baggage and cargo, and supports quick aircraft turnaround.
Customer Service Agent: Handles check-in, boarding gates, baggage queries and passenger assistance for airlines.
Loader / Handyman: Loads and unloads bags and cargo from aircraft, and moves baggage between terminal and aircraft.
Housekeeping Staff: Keeps terminals, washrooms, lounges and aircraft cabins clean between flights.
Security Staff: Passenger screening is done by CISF, while private security agencies handle airline security, cargo and landside duties.
Ramp Driver: Drives baggage tractors, passenger coaches and ground equipment. A valid driving licence is required.
Eligibility Checklist
✓ What you need
✓ Loader / Handyman / Housekeeping: 10th pass
✓ Customer Service Agent: 12th pass or Graduate, with good English
✓ Ramp Driver: 10th pass plus a valid driving licence (often HMV)
✓ Age usually 18 to 28 years for entry roles (relaxation for reserved categories in PSU notices)
✓ Clean police verification for the airport entry pass
✓ Physical fitness for loading and ramp work
✗ Common misunderstandings
✗ An aviation course is not required for loader or housekeeping jobs
✗ Private companies cannot “guarantee” a CISF or AAI job
✗ An offer letter is not final until your entry pass is cleared
✗ No genuine employer takes money for a “confirmed” job
✗ Airport jobs are not all government jobs; most are contract or private
Airport Jobs Salary in India (2026)
Salaries depend on the employer, city and role. Public sector ground handlers such as AI Airport Services Limited (AIASL) publish fixed monthly salaries in their recruitment notices, which make a useful benchmark. Private ground handlers, airlines and contractors usually pay in a similar range, while housekeeping and private security pay is often close to the state minimum wage for the city.

Skills That Increase Your Salary
Spoken English: The biggest factor for customer service and check-in roles.
HMV driving licence: Opens ramp driver and coach driver jobs with higher pay.
Computer basics: Needed for check-in systems, cargo documentation and office support.
Aviation or ground handling course: Helpful for customer service and passenger service trainee roles.
Security training: Security guard training and aviation security awareness help in security jobs.
Regional languages: Hindi plus the local language is valued at passenger-facing counters.
Where Airport Hiring Happens
Genuine airport vacancies come from a few types of employers. Ground handling companies such as AI Airport Services Limited (AIASL) and other licensed ground handlers regularly announce walk-in interviews for loaders, ramp staff and customer service executives on their official websites. Airlines like IndiGo, Air India and Akasa Air post customer service and airport operations jobs on their careers pages. Private airport operators at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other cities also hire through their own portals.
Government airport posts are filled only through official notifications. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) publishes recruitment on its official website, and airport security constables are recruited by CISF through its own recruitment process. Housekeeping and private security jobs are usually filled by contractors, and are often listed on the National Career Service (NCS) portal and trusted job sites. For roles by city and employer, you can also read our guides on airport baggage handler jobs in India and airport cleaning staff jobs.
Contract, Benefits and Legal Rights
Contract type: Many ground handling jobs are fixed-term contracts (often three years, renewable on performance). Contractor jobs may be shorter.
Minimum wages: You must be paid at least the minimum wage fixed for your state and skill level.
PF and ESI: Eligible employees are covered under EPF and ESI, and deductions must appear on your payslip.
Working hours: Shift duty is normal at airports; overtime beyond normal working hours must be paid as per labour law.
Uniform and safety: Employers provide uniform and safety gear such as reflective jackets, safety shoes and ear protection.
Written terms: Always ask for an appointment letter that mentions salary, shift, location and contract period.
Depending on the employer, benefits can include shift allowances, transport or pick-up and drop for night shifts, subsidised meals, medical insurance and paid leave. Airline employees may also receive travel benefits after a qualifying period.
The Real Work Environment
Airports run almost 24 hours, so expect rotating shifts including early mornings, nights, Sundays and festivals. Ramp and loading work is done outdoors in heat, rain and noise, and involves heavy lifting under strict time pressure. Customer service agents stand for long hours and deal with delayed flights, missed connections and upset passengers. Security staff must stay alert through long, repetitive shifts.
The benefits are real too. Airports offer structured training, uniforms, a disciplined work culture and steady experience that is valued by airlines and airports in India and abroad. Staff with good records often move from contract roles into supervisory or permanent posts.

How to Apply for Airport Jobs in India
1Find an official notice: Check the careers or recruitment page of the ground handler, airline, airport operator, AAI or CISF. Note the post, city, age limit and last date.
2Check eligibility carefully: Match your education, age, licence and physical requirements before applying.
3Apply or attend the walk-in: Fill the form online or carry the printed form and documents to the walk-in venue on the given date.
4Clear the selection rounds: Expect document checks, an interview, and for ramp roles a physical test or driving trade test.
5Complete verification and entry pass: After selection, police verification and the Aerodrome Entry Permit (AEP) process must be completed before you can work in restricted areas.
Scams and Common Mistakes
⚠ “Pay for a confirmed airport job” offers: Fraudsters often send fake offer letters with airline or AAI logos and ask for money for training, uniform or “security deposit”. Genuine employers never sell jobs.
⚠ Fees outside the official notification: Some PSU notices include a small application fee paid through an official method mentioned in the notice. Any payment to an agent, personal UPI ID or bank account is a scam.
⚠ Hiding police cases or giving wrong details: The airport entry pass needs police verification. Wrong or hidden information can lead to rejection even after selection.
