Marriott International is one of the biggest hotel employers in the Gulf. Its brands, from Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and JW Marriott at the luxury end to Sheraton, Westin, Le Méridien, Courtyard, Four Points, Aloft and Marriott Executive Apartments, run hundreds of hotels and serviced apartments across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Doha, Kuwait City and Muscat. Every one of these properties needs a large team of front office agents, waiters, room attendants, cooks, stewards and engineers, which is why Marriott vacancies appear in the Gulf almost every week.
This guide explains which roles are commonly open, what they realistically pay, how the visa and contract work in Gulf countries, and how to apply through the right channel without paying anyone. It is written for job seekers who want a hotel career in the Gulf, whether you are a fresher or already have hospitality experience.
What the Work Involves
Marriott job titles can look unusual at first. Many postings use the company’s own names for familiar roles, so it helps to know what each team does:
Front Office (Guest Service / Guest Experience Expert): check-in and check-out, reservations, handling guest requests, concierge and phone calls, often using the Opera hotel system.
Food & Beverage (F&B Service Expert, Host, Bartender): serving guests in restaurants, room service, banquets and lounges, taking orders and setting tables.
Housekeeping (Hotel Cleanliness Expert, Room Attendant, Laundry): cleaning and preparing rooms, public areas and linen to brand standards.
Kitchen & “Heart of House” (Commis, Steward): food preparation under chefs, dishwashing, kitchen hygiene and store handling.
Engineering & Support: AC, plumbing and electrical maintenance, security, lifeguard, spa and recreation roles.
Eligibility Checklist
What you need
✓ Secondary schooling; a hospitality diploma helps but is not required for most entry roles
✓ Spoken English good enough to talk to guests
✓ Neat appearance and willingness to work shifts, weekends and holidays
✓ Valid passport (usually at least 6 months validity)
✓ Medical fitness for the Gulf residence visa
✓ For supervisor and chef roles: proven hotel experience
Common myths
✗ “You need a degree to work at Marriott” – most entry roles do not
✗ “An agent can guarantee you a Marriott job” – hiring is done by the hotel
✗ “You must pay for the visa” – the employer pays visa costs in the Gulf
✗ “Arabic is compulsory” – English is the main working language; Arabic is a bonus
Salary at Marriott Hotels in the Gulf
Marriott does not publish salary scales. The ranges below are monthly basic pay estimates built from employee-reported data on public salary sites and current market rates for similar hotel jobs in the UAE. In most Gulf hotels you also receive accommodation (or an allowance), transport, duty meals and a share of the service charge, so your total package is higher than basic pay. Luxury properties usually pay more than midscale ones.
Front Desk / Guest Service AgentFairly reliable
AED 3,500 – 6,000 / month
Housekeeping / Room AttendantFairly reliable
AED 2,200 – 3,800 / month
Waiter / F&B ServerNot verified
AED 2,000 – 4,000 / month + service charge
Commis Chef (Kitchen)Not verified
AED 2,500 – 4,500 / month
Steward / Kitchen HelperNot verified
AED 1,500 – 2,500 / month
Pay in Saudi Arabia (SAR) and Qatar (QAR) follows a similar pattern; the dirham and riyal values are close, so an AED 3,000 role is broadly comparable to a SAR 3,000 or QAR 3,000 role. In Qatar, the legal minimum is QAR 1,000 basic plus QAR 500 for housing and QAR 300 for food if the employer does not provide them.
Note: These are not official Marriott salary rates. They are indicative ranges only. Your actual offer depends on the hotel, brand level, city, your experience and the allowances included. Always check the written offer letter before accepting.
Skills That Increase Your Salary
Hotels pay more for staff who can be trusted with guests and systems from day one. These skills make the biggest difference:
Opera PMS (front office)
Fluent English + Arabic, Hindi, Russian or Chinese
Food safety / HACCP certificate
Upselling and loyalty sign-ups
Barista or mixology training
Previous 4–5 star hotel experience
Where Hiring Happens
The main and safest channel is Marriott’s official careers website (careers.marriott.com). You can filter by country and city, for example Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh or Doha, and apply directly to a specific hotel. Marriott vacancies are also shared on LinkedIn, Indeed UAE, Bayt, GulfTalent and Naukrigulf, but these should lead you back to the official application.
Keep in mind that some Gulf hotels carrying Marriott brands are franchised. In that case your employer is the hotel owner or management company, not Marriott International. The job post and offer letter should state the legal employer clearly. New hotel openings (“pre-opening” vacancies) are a good time to apply because they hire large teams at once.
Contract, Benefits and Legal Rights
Hotel staff in the Gulf join on an employment contract that is registered with the government: MOHRE in the UAE, the Ministry of Human Resources (Qiwa) in Saudi Arabia, and the Ministry of Labour in Qatar. The employer arranges and pays for your work permit, residence visa, medical test and Emirates ID, Iqama or QID.
Working hours: In the UAE, normally 8 hours a day and 48 hours a week; extra hours count as overtime.
Leave: Paid annual leave (30 days a year in the UAE after one year), weekly rest day and public holidays.
Common benefits: Shared accommodation or allowance, transport, duty meals, uniform and laundry, medical insurance, annual or biennial air ticket.
End of service: Gratuity after completing one year, paid when the contract ends.
Your passport is your property; the employer should not keep it without your consent. Salaries are paid through each country’s Wage Protection System, so ask for your contract in a language you understand before you sign.
Real Working Environment
Hotel work in the Gulf is busy and structured. Shifts rotate between morning, evening and night, and the peak tourist season from October to April is the most demanding. Teams are highly international, so you will work with colleagues from India, the Philippines, Nepal, Africa, Europe and the Arab world. Marriott properties follow strict brand standards for grooming, cleanliness and guest service, with regular training. Staff often praise the learning and the brand name on their CV, while long standing hours and summer heat in outdoor roles are the common complaints. Travel demand in the region was disrupted earlier in 2026, so hiring pace can vary from hotel to hotel.
Guest-Facing vs Heart of House Roles
Guest-Facing (Front Office, F&B)
• Higher pay potential with service charge and tips
• Good English and confidence required
• Faster promotion to supervisor
• Pressure from guest complaints and peak hours
Heart of House (Housekeeping, Kitchen)
• Easier entry for freshers
• Basic English is often enough
• Physically demanding, fixed routines
• Clear path to supervisor or chef with skills
Growth Path
Marriott is known for promoting from within. A typical path looks like this: Associate (agent, attendant, server, commis) → Senior Associate or Team Leader → Supervisor → Assistant Manager → Department Manager. With 2–3 years of good performance, many staff move to a supervisor role, and internal transfers to other Marriott hotels in the Gulf or abroad are possible through the same careers portal.
How to Apply
1
Prepare a short CV: one or two pages in English, with hotel or customer service experience, languages and a clear photo if the post asks for one.
2
Search on careers.marriott.com: filter by country, city and department, and read the hotel name and requirements carefully.
3
Create a profile and apply online: you can apply to several roles; set job alerts for your preferred city.
4
Attend the interview: usually an online assessment or video call with HR, then a talk with the department head. Practise answers about guest service situations.
5
Check the offer and complete the visa: review salary, allowances and employer name, then submit documents for the employer-sponsored visa and medical test.
Scams and Common Mistakes
Fees for visa or “processing”: Marriott has publicly said it never asks for money during hiring. Anyone asking for visa, medical or registration fees is a scammer.
Offers from Gmail or WhatsApp-only contacts: Marriott-managed hotels do not accept applications by email. An instant offer with no interview is a red flag.
Fake “reservation tasks” or crypto jobs: some scams ask you to make paid bookings for commission. Real hotel jobs never work this way.
