Titan Company, best known for its watches and Tanishq jewellery, has a watches and wearables division that sells smartwatches and fitness bands under the Titan and Fastrack names. Titan has long run its own watch manufacturing in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, along with assembly units in Uttarakhand, and wearables have become an important part of that work.
Smartwatch production mixes traditional watch assembly with electronics: fitting display modules, batteries and sensors, sealing cases, flashing software and testing every function. This guide explains the daily work of an assembly operator, production worker and quality checker, the realistic salary, how hiring happens and how to apply safely.
We are an independent guide and are not linked to Titan Company. Use this information to prepare, and always apply through official channels or genuine, licensed agencies.
What the Work Involves
A smartwatch line is a mix of manual assembly and electronic testing. Parts arrive as sub-assemblies, and each station adds or checks one thing. Static electricity can damage circuits, so ESD protection is strictly followed. Accuracy and following the work instruction exactly are more important than speed.
- Assembly Operator: fits display modules, batteries, flex cables, buttons and back covers, and applies adhesive or sealing.
- Production Worker: feeds parts to stations, moves trays, labels lots, handles packing and keeps the line stocked.
- Quality Checker: tests touch response, display, charging, heart-rate sensor, Bluetooth pairing and water-resistance results.
- Software Flashing / Test Technician: loads firmware and runs automated test jigs (usually ITI/diploma).
- Packing Staff: boxes each watch with charger and manuals, seals and scans cartons.
8:15 AM – Team huddle: targets, quality alerts
8:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Assembly or testing at your station
12:30 PM – Lunch break
1:15 PM – 4:30 PM – Line work, output and reject counting
4:30 PM – Clean station, log output, handover
Most plants run two shifts, sometimes three during launches or festive demand. Wearable lines change models more often than classic watch lines, so workers must adapt quickly to new work instructions.

Salary: What You Can Realistically Expect
Pay depends on the state’s minimum wage, your payroll type (company or contractor), shift and experience. The figures below are approximate monthly gross amounts for entry and early-career roles in watch and wearable assembly.
Company-payroll workers usually also receive PF, ESI (if eligible), statutory bonus and paid leave. In-hand pay is lower than gross because of PF and ESI deductions. Night shifts and overtime, where offered, add a little extra.
Skills That Increase Your Salary
- ITI in Electronics Mechanic or a diploma in electronics – the strongest booster for this sector.
- Soldering and rework basics – valuable for repair and rework stations.
- Smartphone and app familiarity – needed for pairing and functional testing.
- ESD and cleanroom discipline – reduces defects and builds trust with supervisors.
- Reading work instructions and simple test reports in English.
- Multi-station skill – operators who can cover several steps are promoted faster.
Most factories review grades once or twice a year. Workers who learn more than one machine or station, keep a clean attendance record and do not cause quality complaints are usually first in line when a higher-paying post opens. If you are still studying, an ITI trade linked to machines or electronics is one of the most useful investments you can make for this sector.
Where Hiring Happens
Titan’s watch manufacturing has historically been centred at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, with assembly and component plants in Uttarakhand. Some electronic components for wearables may also be made by partner electronics manufacturers. Openings typically come through:
- Titan Company careers page and its official LinkedIn page for trainee and manufacturing roles.
- Apprenticeship portals: NAPS for 10th/12th/ITI and NATS for diploma holders.
- ITI and polytechnic campus drives in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttarakhand.
- Electronics staffing agencies that supply operators to wearable and mobile phone plants.
- Job portals like Naukri and Apna – always verify the employer name.
Contract, Benefits and Your Legal Rights
Whether you join Titan Company directly, a contract manufacturer or a manpower contractor, Indian labour law gives every factory and warehouse worker a basic set of protections. Knowing them helps you spot a bad employer early.
- Minimum wage: you must be paid at least the minimum wage your state has notified for your skill level (unskilled, semi-skilled or skilled).
- PF and ESI: covered employers must deduct and deposit both. You can check PF deposits with your UAN on the EPFO portal.
- Appointment letter and payslip: ask for both. Contractors must also maintain a wage register and give you a wage slip.
- Overtime: work beyond normal hours should be paid at the legal overtime rate, usually double the ordinary rate.
- Leave and bonus: you earn paid leave as per the Factories Act and statutory bonus if you fall within the eligibility limit.
- Safety equipment: gloves, masks, safety shoes or goggles must be provided free where the job needs them.
Before signing, read the letter slowly. It should state your designation, the employer’s legal name, monthly wages, shift hours, contract or probation period and notice period. Take clear photos of your joining letter and every payslip and keep them on your phone. These small records become very important if there is ever a dispute about wages, PF or your experience certificate.
The Real Work Environment
Watch and wearable assembly areas are indoor, air-conditioned or well ventilated, and much cleaner than heavy factories. You usually sit at a bench and wear an anti-static (ESD) coat, cap and sometimes finger cots or a wrist strap, because static electricity and dust can damage tiny parts. The work is not physically heavy, but it needs concentration for long periods.
Output and rejects are counted every hour or shift, and supervisors quickly point out mistakes. New joiners usually get classroom training and a few days of practice on simple steps before working independently. Women are widely employed in assembly and quality roles. Transport, canteen and accommodation support varies by employer, so ask before joining.
Company Payroll vs Contractor Payroll
• Better job security
• Structured grades and increments
• Full statutory benefits
• Fewer openings, more competition
• Fixed-term contracts (often 6–11 months)
• Pay close to minimum wage
• PF/ESI should still apply – verify
• Good entry point for freshers
Many experienced operators started on contractor payroll and later cleared a company test. If you begin as a contract worker, keep your attendance and quality record clean and apply whenever trainee or payroll openings are announced.
Growth Path
Each step generally takes one to three years. An electronics ITI or diploma speeds things up, especially for test technician and quality roles. Experience on a smartwatch line is directly useful in mobile phone, earbuds and other electronics plants, which are expanding across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Keep copies of internal training certificates and ask for cross-training on test jigs; testing skills usually pay more than pure assembly.
How to Apply: Step by Step
- Prepare a simple one-page resume with your name, mobile number, education, any ITI trade, previous factory or warehouse experience and preferred location.
- Check the official careers page of Titan Company (titancompany.in) and its LinkedIn page for manufacturing, supply chain or trainee openings.
- Register on the government apprenticeship portal (NAPS) and the National Career Service portal, and search for FMCG, packaging or manufacturing companies near you.
- Visit your ITI or polytechnic placement cell and ask about campus drives by factories in nearby industrial areas.
- If you use a manpower agency, confirm it has a real office, a GST or company registration and that it does not charge you any fee.
- Attend the interview with documents, and before joining, ask for a written offer or appointment letter that clearly names your employer.
Large brands often keep a waiting list of screened candidates, so even if there is no opening today, staying registered with genuine agencies and portals can bring a call within a few weeks.
Interview Tips
- Expect an eyesight check, a hand-skill or dexterity test, and simple questions about your education.
- Say clearly that you can work in shifts and follow ESD and cleanliness rules.
- Mention any mobile repair, electronics, soldering or assembly experience with examples.
- Ask politely about salary, shift timing, PF/ESI and whether you will be on company or contractor payroll.
- If you have never worked in a factory, say so honestly and explain why you want to learn.
- Dress neatly, carry documents and arrive early.
Practise short answers to common questions: Why do you want factory work? Can you stand for eight hours? Are you comfortable with night shifts? Have you worked with machines or packing before? Can you join quickly? Simple, honest and confident answers usually work better than long stories.
Scams and Common Mistakes
No genuine employer, including Titan, asks you to pay for an interview, uniform, ID card, training or offer letter. If anyone asks for money by UPI, WhatsApp or cash, stop and report it.
Social media ads promising Titan “packing work from home” with high daily pay are a common scam. Real packing and production work happens on-site in a factory or warehouse.
Starting work without an appointment letter, wage slip or PF registration makes it very hard to claim unpaid wages, overtime or an experience certificate later.
